The Full Story

In 2017 I was helping teach an EMT class when students showed significant concern with how they were learning the material from the lead instructor. Students prayed that they wouldn’t just be lectured at. They did not want “Death by PowerPoint”.

It was out of this student struggle that gave birth to Medic Materials. I became a CIC (Certified Instructor Coordinator) & founded Medic Materials in May of 2020. The online forum & the unending potential of audio & video has given me the ability to reach not only local EMS providers in New York State but a world wide EMS audience.

Our content is geared towards all EMS providers no matter the experience or certification level. I want students to succeed using the tools of the 21st century, not be held back by the tools of the past. Medic Materials wants to help Elevate Your EMS Education through not only evidence based medicine but through ENTERTAINMENT.

When the student is engaged & having fun they will retain the material better. All of our content is created with not only having educational value but also being funny, entertaining & at times a little over the top.

With the help of my fellow providers & educators Gerard, Emily, Phil, & Butch we hope to change how people think of EMS education, & inspire providers to love to learn!

Believe it or not being a Paramedic was not my first choice for a career profession. I graduated high school in 2005 & shipped right off to a small art college outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to study professional photography. Two years later in 2007 I graduated with an Associate Degree in Specialized Technology Photography. I moved back to New York State & soon began planning my future in art.

It was then I opened my own photography studio specializing in commercial advertising photography. This allowed me to work with small & large businesses alike, from local artisans to Hilton Hotels. I loved my work as a photographer but the work was sporadic & I looked for a more steady way to make money while still doing my art.

I began talking with my friend Brian & Sarah whom were both EMT’s for a volunteer rescue squad in my area. I got a job with their help as a driver for the local paid ambulance company & within six months was signed up for my first EMT class.

Since obtaining my certification in 2007, I have worked full or part time as a paid EMT, AEMT or Paramedic in New York State. I love what I do more each day & it has seemed that the last 16 years have flown by.

My career in EMS has led me to work for some of the greatest agencies in the state, meet some amazing providers & most importantly meet my amazing wife Jessica. I can not thank the profession of EMS enough for what it has given to me & it is my wish that I can give back to the profession I love as an educator the the foreseeable future, teaching the next generation of pre-hospital medical clinicians. - Mike Turek
